As part of the development for Slippages I am doing research into panoramic
digital photography and 3D elevation maps with my colleague Eric Hanson, a leader
in this field. I want to emulate the natural and virtual landscape as seen in the environment
set for Hanging Rock below a major component for the film.
The brain perceives space and depth according to an intricate set of lines and shapes
that give us the illusion of 3D space. The Renaissance was a pivotal point in history where
suddenly through the breakthrough in drawing and painting we were able to create the illusion
of 3D space on a two dimensional surface. 3D animation and digital environments are virtual
reproductions of our physical time and space experience.
This is an important part of the research to convey the immersive quality of the fourth
dimension or real world experience for the viewer achieved through the X, Y and Z axes of
space and the fourth dimension of time, emulated in the 3D digital environment.
It is an integral part of the final film to show the perceptual experience of real-time
using immersive space and depth.
